GOV. ISA YUGUDA COMMENDS FCMB ON COMMITMENT TO CLEANER ENVIRONMENT - JUNE 2010

…As Lagos State Confers Environment Ambassador Emeritus on GMD

Bauchi State Government has commended First City Monument Bank Plc (FCMB) on its nationwide awareness campaign on the environment tagged ‘Committed -To –Green’ (C2G). Committed-To-Green is the bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) green initiative which aims at raising awareness through a social engagement plan to sensitize and educate the staff and host communities on environmental friendly behaviour across the country.

This is as Lagos State Government has honoured the bank’s Group Managing Director, Ladi Balogun, with the award of Environment Ambassador Emeritus.

The Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, gave this commendation at the official launching of C2G initiative in the state capital Bauchi, last week. The launch coincided with the commemoration of 2010 World Environment Day during which all staff of the bank in the state embarked on the cleaning of the city and enlightening the host communities on maintaining a healthy environment.

The Governor, who reiterated his administration’s commitment towards the resuscitation, protection and conservation of the state for sustainable development and existence, challenged other corporate bodies in the state to emulate FCMB and take up a role in the management of the environment within the framework of their corporate social responsibility.
The C2G initiative which was flagged off in Lagos last year has also been activated in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Lagos State, Rivers State, Enugu State, Kano State, Ondo State, Plateau State, Gombe State, Kebbi State, Bauchi State and Delta State.

More states have also been scheduled for activation.
The project, the bank said, is a journey to change its environment by imbibing simple acts to ensure sanitation around its branches and homes.

Also as part of activities marking the 2010 World Environment Day celebrations, Lagos State Government last week conferred the honour of Environment Ambassador Emeritus on the Group Managing Director of FCMB, Ladi Balogun and other members of the public who have distinguished themselves in the areas of environmental sustainability.

Conferring the honour on the FCMB boss, the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola said First City Monument Bank has displayed unparalleled corporate responsibility with her passion for the sponsorship of environment related programmes.
“Its pet project, FCMB C2G (Committed to Green) Initiative; the leading role played by the bank in the Fight Against Desert Encroachment Campaign; and the recent lead sponsor of the second Climate Change Summit are some of the recent activities of the bank towards sustainable environment, Governor Fashola stated.”

He said it was in recognition of the bank’s numerous contributions and support for the Lagos State Government’s projects and programmes towards a sustainable environment that the Group Managing Director was presented for award and decoration as Environment Ambassador Emeritus.
