First City Monument Bank Plc (FCMB) has announced the appointment of Peter
Obaseki as the new Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking.
Peter Obaseki joined FCMB in May 1997as the Financial Controller and was in the
team that transformed the bank into a full-blown Commercial Bank within a
universal banking license.
In January 2000, he was promoted to the grade of Vice President in charge of the
Energy group. As a result of the new commercial banking thrust and the opening
up of branches, he was assigned to run the businesses in these locations as
group head Commercial Banking. After the bank consolidation exercise he was
promoted Senior Vice President and divisional head of corporate banking.
He started his working career with KPMG Ani and Ogunde as a Management
Consultant focused on Financial Institutions; he was a pioneer staff at Fidelity
Union Bank where he led the implementation of the bank’s first information
technology platform. He was subsequently elevated to the role of Financial
Controller of the bank. In 1993 he became a Manager in charge of Medium-Sized
companies within the Corporate banking division. He was also at Equity Bank as
the Regional Manager in charge of Allen Branch, Ikeja.
He is a 1983 graduate of the University of Lagos, where he earned a B.Sc in
Computer Sciences, in addition M.Sc in Management Information Systems and MBA in
finance.
Peter’s core competence includes relationship management, structured credits and
project finance; he has been credited with leading many land-mark transactions.
A consummate and professionally qualified banker, he has attended several
international courses, including an intensive Leadership course at Columbia
Business School, New York
